Within a brief 45 minute boat trip from the shores of Isla Mujeres, you can experience the thrill of swimming in the turquoise waters of the Caribbean alongside groups of the world’s largest species of fish! Within only a few miles off the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula, you will be permitted to swim with whale sharks in their natural habitat as they are moving with the currents which carry their food. This is not a zoo or aquarium. You will be face to face with whale sharks in the wild.
In spite of their impressive size which averages ten meters (33 feet), whale sharks are totally non aggressive animals and instead of fleeing from contact, you will be delighted by their curious, friendly and at times timid behavior. They pose no threat to humans because they are filter feeders with an estimated 13,000 gallons of water passing through their gills per hour in order to filter out enough plankton and small fish needed to feed their enormous bodies.

Most described their experience in superlatives. Here is a sampling of what they had to say.
"Being next to such a large shark was scary at first but then we had such an experienced guide, I felt really safe. The whale sharks are beautiful for the slow way they move and are so gentle. The boat ride was awesome with the waves splashing and the smell of the ocean. When you go to Mexico, go on the whale shark tour."
"It was awesome ! We listened to our guide and followed the rules. We were swimming and watching a shark; then it came toward us, right up to my face with this gigantic open mouth. It was really scary. Then he turned around and slowly swam away. It was the best experience of my life! "
